Birdominium Complex

    Birdominium Complex

Janet Austin and Emily Moorhead named their installation “Nestful”. It embodied dozens of birdhouses placed in an old tree across the street from Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo. They did not paint the birdhouses and provided no way for birds to know which house, among so many similar houses, was their home. Birds have bird brains. They wouldn’t be able to comprehend “addresses”. But birds do recognize color, shapes and some objects. So, I have individualized each birdhouse with a unique front and created neighborhoods and streets by using matching roof colors. My modified Nestful could have evolved into a Birdominium Complex, if it was still there. Sadly the tree, and all of it’s birdhouses, have been removed.
